Already?

The dreaded moment has arrived. After the last fix I made in the meta tags the site is officially done and bug free. Al I can do now is add contend and make small layout changes. Luckily I've started up a new project building a web site for my girlfriend (which will probably take forever because she doesn't seem to be in a hurry). I have a couple of templates I've been experimenting with. They display excellently in every browser, every screensize (provided it's 800x600 or higher) and on every platform. All I have to do now is figure out what the hell I want to put in the contend ^_^. If you have any suggestions/ideas for a great site feel free to mail them to me. Just keep in mind that I will have very little drivespace at my disposal so big image galleries etc. are not an option. Just mail me or post it in the groupboard forum.

Link exchange spam

Recentely I am being bombarded by link exchange requests from online stores which are selling the strangest things. I'm pretty sure that this is some form of spam and I've written a mail back rejecting the request, and I've added them to my blocked address list immediately. I've set up a standard reply for such requests because I can't be bothered with replying to all the requests individually (takes to much time).
Read below to see what the standard reply looks like (Webmasters feel free to copy and use this reply):

Hello mister .......,

We regretfully inform you that your request to exchange links has been denied because:
1\ The topic of your website is not related to any of the topics on our site.
2\ Your mail seems to be an automatically generated mail.
3\ Our site is an add free site.

There will be no need to reply to this mail.
Because we have reason to believe that your message is (a form of) spam we have added your address to our blocked address list.

Kind regards,

Jasper Houtman
Webmaster

I hope this will help others get rid of most of those spammers.

If you want your link displayed on our site then the following "rules" apply:

Your site must be anime, games or japanese culture related.
Your site must look and feel reasonably proffessional.
Your site may not contain any adult contend.

The same "rules" apply for Affiliation, but it will give you a link in the left menu bar!!! We are still looking for 2 or 3 affiliates, so feel free to apply ^_^.

Lazy weekend

How I enjoy relaxing and doing nothing, but maybe that's just because I rarely get a chance to do so. Between work, my family and my biggest hobby (building sites) there's not an awfull lot of time left to just sit back and do nothing. And if I'm honest than I have to admit I'm not capable of doing that for very long. Like this weekend, I found myself busy building a universal CSS stylesheet for future web projects (So my pages wil load with the same layout in EVERY browser). I based it on a minimal resolution of 1024x768px (800x600px is dead people, it's outdated and it will nolonger be supported in my future designs). I got the CSS menu from a template on Promulgate and learned most of the other code on W3schools. I am thinking about using the new stylesheet to build another site on basic webdesign (HTML/CSS/XML and simple JAVA), so I can teach others how to build sites ^_^. If you have any questions about webdesign veel free to mail me, and I'll try to help you and give you some pointers. You can also send me ideas for updates, etc if you want. LOL, I would actually apreciate any reaction whatsoever right now. I'm getting plenty of unique hits and page views, but almost nobody is using any of the interactive content. You all should enter comments, links and of course most importantly SIGN MY GUESTBOOK. Ow well, maybe I should do a bit more promotion next week. We'll see what happens then :p.

RSS/XML news feed

I downloaded a trial version of FeedForAll from CNET because I thought it would be difficult to code a XML newsfeed by hand. After I had generated my newsfeed with the program I got curious, and took a look with my editor. I must say I was a bit dissapointed, the coding is extremely simple. It's very easy to update the XML file by hand (even though the program is quicker). So I decided the program is not worth the monney they are asking for it, and after my evaluation period expires I will update it with my editor. There's one reason why I'm happy that I did a search for a RSS composer, I found an excellent newsreader: RSSreader. It's freeware!!! You can also get it from CNET. Go check it out!!!

Building, building, building...

I'm finally done rebuilding the site for the forth (and prob not the last time ;p). I just had to add frames and a lot of contend!!! The sites a lot more interactive now, and links are loaded in the main frame instead of in the same window. So hopefully that will stop people from immediately linking to another site right after they enter. Mainly because I noticed in my statistics that most people don't bother to read more than 1 or 2 pages, so they miss most of my contend :( . It's really worth the efford!!! go check it out!!! And of course don't forget to sign the guestbook!!!
